A former construction worker who is now a staff nurse with Cope Foundation is encouraging people to consider a career supporting people with disabilities. Pawel Wieczkowski joined the organisation as a student in 2012 and has worked in various locations across Cork since then.
The Cork-based charity is looking to recruit care assistants and nursing staff and is hosting a recruitment day in The Metropole Hotel, Cork city on January 31st.
Cope Foundation offers flexible working hours and commuting time. Last year, the HR team attended and hosted a total of nine recruitment open days. 150 new starters were employed in a range of disciplines across the city and county, with most of these positions filled being in front line roles.
Pawel Wieczkowski moved to Ireland in 2006 and worked in the construction sector until he lost his job in the economic crash. He decided to start a career in nursing and got a place in UCC in 2012. He worked with Cope Foundation as a student nurse in 2012 and got a full-time position as a staff nurse after graduation.
“I really enjoy my role as a staff nurse with Cope Foundation which has brought me to many locations across Cork. I would encourage anyone who wants to look at a career in the disability sector to come to the open day. It’s a great opportunity to speak to staff who have first-hand experience and who have been working in the organisation for a long time.”
Oisín Ryan is a care assistant with Cope Foundation for the last six years.
“It can be a challenging role and no two days are the same but it is a very rewarding job. The people we support make it all worthwhile.”
The recruitment day is open from 2pm – 6.30pm.
Cope Foundation is a section 38 organisation funded by the HSE. For more information about the event visit www.cope-foundation.ie
