The launch of Cork GAA’s online streaming service, Rebels Online, has been hailed as a success as viewers from around the world tuned in to watch last Friday’s Bons Secours Senior Football Championship between Castlehaven and Carbery Rangers. The majority of people tuned in from Ireland, USA and UK while others watched from as far away as Canada, Australia and New Zealand as well as Italy and Spain.
Cork GAA and broadcast partner TVM are reporting a strong sign-up for the service in the opening week with figures exceeding expectations. They are expecting a large number of viewers again this Friday for the second free-to-air game between Blackrock and Glen Rovers in the Co-op Superstores Senior Hurling Championship.
The new service will stream up to 40 championship games across the county between now and the end of October. The next eight games to be shown once the paywall goes active will be revealed during Friday’s game.
Rebels Online offers full broadcast quality coverage of each game, complete with replays and highlights packages. There will also be exclusive pre- and post-match interviews with managers and players, as well as a new series called “Legends’ featuring the titans of the sport who hailed from Cork.
Kevin O’Donovan, CEO Cork GAA said; “We are heartened by the interest shown in Rebels Online since going live last Friday. We have been contacted by people from all over Cork as well as expats from far and near who are delighted to have the opportunity to watch their local club in action either live or on the replay or highlights. TVM are using the latest technology to bring the games to viewers in their own homes which is of particular interest to those who cannot attend the game in-person.”
Rebels Online can be watched by logging on to rebelsonline.gaacork.ie. Live games are available to subscribers through a range of packages and pricing has been set to match the minimum entry cost at the turnstiles for a club game.
The costs breakdown is as follows;
Cost per game, pay per view €9.99 – €14.99
Cost per season €79.99*
*includes access to all content on Rebels Online
Cork GAA will be announcing special offers and giveaways through www.gaacork.ie and through its live-streaming service. Any funds raised after costs by Cork GAA will be used to fund the wider One Cork initiative, to benefit the game both at county and club level.
