The Cork Rose of Tralee Committee have for the second year actively partnered with Breaking the Silence to promote Suicide Prevention Training. This partnership was primarily promoted by nominating a representative from Breaking The Silence for the Cork Rose of Tralee Selection. Our representative was Maria Sheehan, a member of Breaking The Silence, a Primary School Teacher, and overall very positive ambassador for Mental Health.
Secondly a group of Cork Rose selection entrants completed the 3 hour Safe Talk Training, which resulted in a core group positive representatives in the community being trained and additional awareness of Suicide Prevention in general.
Thirdly Breaking the Silence was very fortunate to be designated as the nominated charity for the raffle on the Saturday night of the Selection Weekend. We were additionally fortunate to have the very generous support once again of the Cork Airport Hotel, Cork International Hotel and Titanic Bar and Restaurant. Their generosity in sponsoring raffle prizes empowered us to raise a total of €925 on the evening and all of this will be used to deliver Suicide Prevention Training across local communities.
We fully recognise the depth and range of very worthy causes that were promoted via this Selection Event and appreciate deeply the opportunity to be involved with such a positive initiative and committed team.
