A member of the public alerted the Coast Guard to a vessel adrift with no power and 1 person on board between Spike Island and Haulbowline Island.

Valentia Coast Guard requested Crosshaven lifeboat volunteers to launch at 5.40pm on Saturday 29 July, and a crew of Alan Venner, Susanne Deane and David Venner found the 20’ motor vessel at anchor near the Haulbowline bridges. The skipper commented that he had experienced engine failure after leaving the slipway at Paddy’s Point. Weather conditions on scene were a westerly Force 5 with a short choppy sea.

The crew established a tow back to Paddy’s Point and assisted the skipper in retrieving the vessel to his trailer before returning to station.
Helm, Alan Venner commented “That all water users should carry a means of calling for help and to call for help in a timely manner.”
He also commended the member of the public for reporting the incident.

In the event of an emergency on or near the water, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard or use VHF channel 16.

Crew; Alan Venner, Susanne Deane and David Venner.

Launch and recovery; Gary Heslin, Jon Meany, Michael Livingstone, Kline Pennefather and the DLA was Hugh Mockler.
