Enjoyable 20th Anniversary Evening At Cobh Heritage Centre

HCCobh Hertiage Centre marked it’s 20th Anniversary on Thursday 4th July when invited guests gathered to mark the event with a night of food, drink and musical entertainment. General Manager Jack Walsh welcomed guests saying it was his ”pleasure and delight to be part of this historic evening for Cobh”.

The centre’s origins began in the late 1980’s when a local committee launched ‘The Queenstown Project.’ Local interests set about a major fundraising campaign to build a heritage Centre which would highlight the significant role Cobh played in major Irish historical events such as the Famine and Emigration as well as the two ill-fated cruise liners The Titanic and the Lusitania. Since those early days the Centre has gone from strength to strength and has been host to some wonderful events throughout the years.

Speaking with Cllr John Mulvihill Snr, he said ”It’s been a great 20 years for the centre and please God this will continue for another twenty. There have been a few ups and downs throughout the years but determined spirit has always won through. Cobh Heritage Centre is one of the many focal points of our beautiful town and it should be embraced by all’.

Some of the ‘Special Areas of Interest’ at the centre are the Australia Connection – Roses from the Heart, Emmigrants Story – Monthly Update from Emmigrants Families and Relations on leaving Ireland and of course Father Brownes Photo Collection – Father Browne who travelled from Southhampton to Cobh on the ill fated Titantic.
