In a game in which Ramblers had to make two substitutions through injury within the opening 9 minutes , were a goal down some 4 minutes later, and finished the game with just 9 players, a share of the points in a 1-1 draw might be viewed as a point gained as opposed to two lost.
The loss of Jason Dunphy (4 minutes) and Jason Abbott (9 minutes) had to impact on the rhythm of the team with the subsequent re-gigging in an overall disjointed first-half, with the lead goal to the visitors scored on 3 minutes as Darren O’Brien tapped in from close-range following Shane Hallahan’s parry from Adam Piggott’s initial shot. Josh Murphy skied over a worthwhile chance to equalise on the call of half-time.
On the resumption Hallahan saved on the double from a suspiciously offside looking Danny Roche, with Paul White in the visitors goal parrying away a long ranger from Josh Murphy as Ramblers imposed themselves more on the game but without the end product. The Tralee bench thought that Darren O’Brien’s shot on 67 minutes was in but it was the side-netting instead. In a game devoid of a serious challenge, a flurry of cards saw first Derek Keaney (2 yellow) sent-off on 73 minutes and was followed by Cian Van Wijnen (2 yellow) on 88 minutes. But just a minute prior to the latters dismissal came a Ramblers equaliser, with origins in Eoin Hastings’ throw ball, a flicked back-header from Dave Cahill, and Cillian Tallon gleefully swept home the dropping ball for his first of the campaign to earn a valuable point.
Team: Shane Hallahan, Eoin Hastings, Loyd Spillane, Derek Keaney, Brendain Frahill, Jason Dunphy, Dylan McNamara, Jason Abbott, Cillian Tallon, Dave Cahill, Josh Murphy.
Subs: Dave Curran for Dunphy 4 minutes
Cian Van Wijnen for Abbott 9 minutes
Adam Thompson for McNamara 82 minutes
Evan O’Donovan(GK) not-used
