There was great celebrations at Scoil Iosaef Naofa on Wed June 26th as a fifth Green Flag was raised. This flag was awarded for work done for the last two years on the theme of Biodiversity. Principal Teacher, Mr. Tony Kenneally congratulated the Green Schools Committee, under the leadership of teacher, Philip Barry, on their dedicated work. He welcomed guests of honour, Katie Daly and Olivia Madigan, of Cobh Tidy Towns. It was an honour, he said, to have Cobh Tidy Towns members raise the flag as they had done Trojan work for Cobh in the past few years. In that time Cobh had changed from being a Litter Black Spot to the category of Tidy Towns Silver Medallist.
In his speech Philip Barry thanked the Tidy Towns Members , school staff,Green School Committee and pupils. During the Biodiversity Module a new herb garden and bug hotel had been built and the school vegetable garden had won a commendation. He gave special mention to caretaker, Martin O´Driscoll for all his work in caring for the school environment. Finally, Katie Daly of Cobh Tidy Towns, encouraged the pupils to continue to be proud of their beautiful town and to keep it litter free.
