Just before Christmas, a cheque for €21,000 was handed over to the Irish Cancer Society by the committee of the Great Island 10 Mile Road Race. Over the last three years this run, along with the 5k walk and some other events, has raised a staggering €78,000 for the ICS. This figure is all the more remarkable when you consider that it has been collected during a time of unprecedented austerity.
The organising committee of the ‘Great Island 10 Mile Road Race’ would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody for helping to reach this figure. It has been a considerable undertaking and would not have been achieved without the help and support of so many in our community.
The race will take place again this year on April 21st at 10.30am. Full details of the race and 5k walk will be announced in the coming weeks but this is simply to put you on notice to keep that date free. We will also have chip timing for more accurate times.
We know it is asking a lot but, in memory of all those that Cobh has lost to cancer, we would really love to break the €100k mark for the Irish Cancer Society in 2013. With your help, it can and will be done!!
