HOLLYWOOD STARS SAIL FOR SPIKE ISLAND CORK

Film buffs rejoice!  Hollywood is descending on Spike Island Cork giving visitors a chance to get up close to some of tinsel towns biggest stars.  The island is teaming up with Cork based horror festival organisers Spookscreen on Saturday September 14th to showcase some legends of the silver screen, each with a horror film background.  Each attendee will enjoy an evening cruise across Cork harbour to the island before joining a Q and A session with the stars followed by a horror movie screening of ‘Children of the corn’, the cult classic starring one of the attendees, Courtney Gaines.  Visitors then return to Cobh via an atmospheric night time crossing of Cork harbour. 

The line up includes some of the biggest names in Hollywood like former Bond girl Caroline Munro, star of ‘The spy who loved me’ as well as the Hammer Horror films. 

Irish actor Patrick Bergin, leading man alongside Julia Roberts in ‘Sleeping with the enemy’ and Harrison For in ‘Patriot games’.

Legendary casting directors Ros and Jon Hubbard as well as Mary Mcguire will share their stories of casting some of the Hollywood greats  Jon Hubbard cast ‘The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and the Bourne movies, Ros Hubbard cast the Da Vinci Code and Lara Croft movies while Mary Mcguire cast the Irish classic Father Ted!

Actor Courtney Gaines has a huge flimography that includes the Children of the Corn, Back to the future, the burbs, Seinfeld and more. 

And finally movie veteran Chris Rowe will talk about his many years in Hollywood, including working with cult favourite Malcolm McDowell, Scream queen Neve Campbell and his time as manager and close friend of Zombie Master George Romero.

The event is part of a weekend of performances starting Friday 13th with the stars attending various workshops, talks and events right across Cork city with the Spike Island event the flagship performance.   The island is the perfect location for the scary movie event with its popular after dark tours and dark past making a fitting setting for some scares.  The island regularly hosts cinema nights at its former children’s prison auditorium and the event will mark the beginning of the islands winter horror series. 

Island manager John Crotty said the island was excited to host some Hollywood legends to add to its many infamous visitors.  “Our island has seen it all, from infamous criminals like Martin Cahill to Prime Ministers in Winston Churchill and sitting Taoiseach Eamon DeValera and Enda Kenny.  We have hosted captains and convicts and many a sinner and saint, so it is great to add Hollywood icons to that list”. 

Film fans are urged to book early to avoid disappointment as tickets to the event are extremely limited and on sale atwww.spikeislandcork.ie/concerts
