Mulvihill welcomes increase in the numbers visiting Cobh.

Mayor of Cobh John Mulvihill Jnr has welcomed new figures released by the Central Statistics Office, highlighting a marked increase in the numbers visiting Ireland.
In the period March – May 2013 the total number of trips to Ireland increased by 8.1% to 1,771,700, an overall increase of 132,000 compared with the same period last year. Trips by American to Ireland increased by
12.6 per cent up to 282,300, while European visitors (not including residents of Great Britain) increased by 9.6 per cent to 676,000, and trips to Ireland from residents elsewhere in the world increased by 3.2 per cent to 87,000. Trips by residents of Britain increased by 5.6% to 726,300.
In welcoming the figures, Cllr Mulvihill added, “the town of Cobh has seen a huge increase in visitors and tourism is growing year on year. The recent introduction by Cobh town council of a campervan bays is just another piece in the Jigsaw that is ensuring Cobh benefits from the increase in visitors to Ireland. I personally met tourist in the campervan bays from Holland, France, Sweden England and Scotland in the last three days alone, I asked them about their observation of Cobh I was delighted to hear that they have never seen a better setting, the beautiful harbour and cruise terminal, they love the shops, eateries the local history centers and titanic trail and would recommend it to their friends and family to visit.
The work of the voluntary groups in the town most notably Tidy towns is transforming the image of the town.
Cobh is fast becoming the place to visit and with the ongoing development of our product and services, it is easy to see why.
