This season we have entered a team in the Cork Youth League. The team has played 5 league games & 3 League Cup games. The league campaign has been up & down so far with impressive home wins against Macroom, Avondale & Carrigaline but also loses away to Buttevant & Youghal.
Cobh Wandereras 4 – 2 Macroom
The first league game of the season brought an impressive win with Jamie McCarthy scoring the first goal & Luke Stavrianos scoring a hat-trick. With the score at 4-0 Buttevant scored 2 quick goals with 10 minutes remaining to cause a few moments of concern for Wanderers but they saw the game out comfortably.
Youghal 2 – 1 Cobh Wanderers
Wanderers were missing some key personnel for this important league game against a Youghal team they had beaten in the League Cup. Youghal controlled most of the game & scored 2 goals before Luke Stavrianos scored for Wanderers with 15 minutes remaining. This lifted the team & they were unlucky not to score an equaliser in the closing stages.
Cobh Wanderers 6 – 2 Avondale
Wanderers returned to winnig ways in the league with another impressive home display. A man of the match performance from Luke Stavrianos as he continued his scoring with a 4 goal haul. Dave Cummins completed the scoring with 2 goals.
Buttevant 2 – 0 Cobh Wanderers
A Wednesday evening trip to Buttevant didn’t bring any points for Wanderers even though the team controlled the territory & possession for the majority of the game. A harsh penalty award half way through the second half in 1 of Buttevants breakaways produced the 1st goal. The 2nd followed a long srambled clearance from the Buttevant area & the striker ran through to strike the ball home. A game to forget where Wanderers had no luck.
Cobh Wanderers 3 – 0 Carrigaline
Another home game & another home win. A welcome return to winning ways with goals from Jason Keating, Kenny Mabiala & Luke Stavrianos & also a penalty save from keeper Dylan Sheridan with the score at nil all. After 5 games Wanderers are in 3rd position on 9 points with Buttevant on top on 15 points & Douglas Hall in 2nd on 13. Wanderers have a game in hand on both teams. League Cup Games
The League Cup consisted of Douglas Hall, Youghal & Wanderers.
An away 2 – 1 win against Douglas Hall & a 2 – 1 home win against Youghal saw the Wanderers progress to the Quarter Finals & a match away to Premier Division side Castleview. Against a very impressive Castleview side Wanderers were beaten 6-0 to end their League Cup campaign.
