NEW CORK HARBOUR WEBSITE – www.corkharbour.ie

A new website dedicated to Cork Harbour has been launched – www.corkharbour.ie aimed at providing up to date news and information and promoting the harbour’s residents, places and the wide range of things to do and see, both on and off the water. The new site also features videos, galleries and web links to harbour based groups and organisations. Visitors can also choose to follow Cork Harbour.ie on Twitter and Facebook and stay in touch with local harbour news via a blog.

Did you know Cork Harbour is the second largest natural harbour in the world and known internationally for being the last port of call of the ill-fated Titanic? Cork Harbour is also home to the world’s oldest yacht club, the Royal Cork Yacht Club (RCYC), which was founded in 1720.

Cork Harbour has history and heritage and a wide range of activities that feature in the everyday life of the harbour today. The Harbour is home to a world class ocean energy cluster, is an internationally renowned sailing destination, has great significance for bird watchers and is home to eight of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies, creating excellent trade links and economic benefits for the area.

Cork Harbour is a magnet for leisure users also with beautiful coastal walks, superb locations for rowing, fishing, swimming and sailing and is home to many talented artists, food lovers and musicians. Cork Harbour also has Spike Island set in the heart of Cork Harbour, known as Ireland’s Alcatraz.

Cork harbour.ie complements the work of the Cork Harbour Management Focus Group and their implementation of the Integrated Management Strategy for Cork Harbour. This group helps to foster a sense of solidarity between all stakeholders in the harbour region. Cork Harbour spans a large geographic area that stretched from Roche’s Point in the east, to the city quays of Cork and around to Fort Camden in the West, adjacent to the sailing village of Crosshaven.
