Cork East Fianna Fail TD Kevin O’Keeffe had today (Monday, 19th September) welcomed the hugely positive news that GE Healthcare is investing in a new €150 million bio-manufacturing campus in Cork which will end up creating 500 new jobs in the region.
Deputy O’Keeffe commented that “GE Healthcare’s decision to expand its operations in Cork is further evidence that Cork is now a leading, global location when it comes to pharmaceutical investment.”
“Cork benefits from having a steady flow of high level graduates that possess the necessary skills needed to support our fast growing bio-industry.”
“The site in Cork is expected to be home to more than 500 new jobs when fully operational; 400 with biopharma companies and a further 100 employed directly by GE,” added O’Keeffe.
“I’ve been informed that the construction phase, subject to planning approvals, is expected to begin by mid- 2017 and create up to 800 construction jobs which will be of great benefit to local tradespeople.”
“I want to take this opportunity to wish GE Healthcare the very best and look forward to the construction process getting underway in the Bio Park. Ringaskiddy,” concluded O’Keeffe.
