Cobh Pirates, with great pleasure, handed over the monies raised in the recent charity game between Munster Juniors and a Cobh Pirates invitational side. The game and over all day was a great success and due to this and the warming support by the people of Cobh, well in excess of €16000 was raised.
In the very recent past 2 families very closely assosciated to Cobh Pirates have been effected by cancer. Initially these familes were to be the benefactors of the monies raised but both families very kindly decided that they would like to see the funds go the other good causes.
The worthy causes that received the funds were the childrens leukaemia wards of The Mercy Hospital Cork and Our Ladies Childrens Hospital Crumlin. Present on the night from the Leukaemia Assoc was Mr Christy Connel. Christy made a very touching and heart reaching speech about his own involement with the charity and where the money would go. He thanked the people of Cobh for turning out to support the event and the sub-committee, led by Kieran McKweon, that organised the game and also to the many sponsors who did not hesitate to lend a hand.
