Below are a selection of poems sent into Cobh Edition by young aspiring poet and 5th year Coláiste Muire student Shane Connolly. Shane who is 17 years of age writes poetry on topics such as Life’s lessons, Death and Sorrow, Love, and Philosophical views and got serious about during his Junior Cert a few years ago.
Fire Of Pain
As I sit and waste away another day ,
I think to myself about life in general ,
Especially mine its been a waste of breathe ,
What have I done ?
Who have I met?
All the ones I love so dearly
Are nowhere near me ,
What to do when love turns to hate?
Should you hide your feelings and ly in shame
Or take some risks and don’t look back ,
Should you look to the future
And forget the past and
Extinguish the fire of pain at last?

Sorrow
Do not sorrow I will be here tomorrow ,
I have gone no where,
I am with you forever,
From the moment you open your eyes to the moment you close them,
Hold me close and never leave go,
I’m here for you when u shed a tear
I’m here for you for you in times of fear
I’m not here nor there
But everywhere,
With every breath of life,
I lived it right,
And now I am your guiding light,
I wrote this poem before I died,
In hope that it would soothe your cries,
Oh do not sorrow I will be here tomorrow,
I have gone no where,
I will always be there,
From the moment you open your eyes to the moment you close them,
You will see me again,
But until then,
Know I am close,
We will never be apart,
You will always be in my heart.

Worlds Above
I look to the clouds,
To see a world above,
With every look,
It’s a different view,
Countless ideas of what seem to be ,
But none to be answered,
As the eyes cannot see,
Forgotten explorations went further than the clouds,
Still leaving us wondering,
Of what’ to be found,
With each time you glance,
Your mind takes over,
And your dreams lye to chance,
But all this ended with discovered truth,
All mans wonders , destroyed by another mans ponder,
This left us looking beyond the clouds,
For new worlds to be found.

Coláiste Muire defined
I have written many poems ,
But none so hard ,
To define my school ,
Just left me with drool ,
It educates your mind ,
But also defines your soul ,
Once we were a blank canvas ,
Which school helps to mould ,
Some destined for greatness and legends to be told ,
Some live simple lives with happiness to behold ,
Some live on through their sports ,
Others through their work ,
But one thing quite sure ,
The story begins at Coláiste Muire.
