Brian O’Doherty’s exhibition Reading Time features a selection of drawings, prints, sculptures, and installations, including HCE Redux, originally from 2004 and recreated for this occasion, and two studies for One, Here, Now, a mural made at SIRIUS in 1996, one of which belongs to the SIRIUS Collection. These works are layered in time and space, and concern the building that SIRIUS occupies, Irish history, and literature as a medium that unfolds durationally. The exhibition is the first presentation of O’Doherty’s practice since his passing on 7 November 2022, and reiterates his key themes: self, language, perception, and ideology. LAUNCH EVENT Christa-Maria Lerm Hayes, Brenda Moore-McCann and Sarah Wilson in Conversation SIRIUS Saturday, 11 March, 3-5pm Free; no booking required Scholars Christa-Maria Lerm Hayes, Brenda Moore-McCann and Sarah Wilson discuss Brian O’Doherty’s practice, from his former Patrick Ireland moniker to his institutional critique and the legacy of his ideas, writings, and works. This exhibition is produced by SIRIUS and guest-curated by Christa-Maria Lerm Hayes, the 2023 SIRIUS Scholar in Residence. |

Holly Márie Parnell Cabbage Holly Márie Parnell’s film Cabbage (2022) examines the complexities of bodily autonomy within an ableist paradigm. Parnell focuses on her brother, David, particularly his texts written with the assistance of eye-tracking technology – he comments his “eyes are his voice,” which is made visible through poetry. Parnell juxtaposes medical narratives with testimony from David and their mother, including memories and reflections on various topics, from the minutia of daily life to questions of disability. Parnell creates an intimate portrait of her family and considers the relationship between empathy and the politics of care. LAUNCH EVENT Holly Márie Parnell in Conversation with The White Pube SIRIUS Saturday, 18 March, 3-5pm Free; no booking required Holly Márie Parnell and the critics Zarina Muhammad and Gabrielle de la Puente (aka The White Pube) discuss Parnell’s approach to filmmaking, focused on emphatic encounters with her subjects, and her interest in themes of the body and representation, particularly the exclusion of specific individuals from dominant narratives and ideas. This exhibition is produced by SIRIUS and curated by Miguel Amado, director. |
