Springfield AFC reports 25.08.18
Cork AUL League One Results:
21/08/18: Corkbeg 4-1 Springfield AFC
25/08/18: Dunbar Celtic 2-0 Springfield AFC
A disappointing week for Springfield in what is proving to be a very competitive League One this season. After playing out a draw with a fine performance in the league opener we were unable to build on that this week.
Corkbeg’s clinical finishing decided Tuesday nights game along with a average Springfield performance that we have not been accustomed to. Corkbeg were gifted a number of early opportunities and they made no mistakes. Springfield trying desperately to claw back the deficit back let themselves open to the counter and a game that might have been much closer got away from us.
Springfield and Dunbar Celtic played out a very evenly matched game on Saturday afternoon in Deerpark. 0-0 at halftime with both teams having good opportunities. It was Dunbar who took the lead after a long throw was cleared away only to fall to the Dunbar striker to hit home through a crowd of players. Springfield kept up the fight and should of had a deserved equaliser when Stephan Walsh megged the Dunbar keeper after beating the offside trap, only to have his effort cleared off the line. Springfield’s effort wasn’t to be awarded and Dunbar managed a late goal to settle the encounter.
There was a list of positives taken from both games, especially the reaction from Tuesdays defeat to put in a good performance yesterday. Unfortunately without getting the rewards it deserved, as often happens in football. Springfield look onward to next week’s encounter, where we host Central Rovers on Tuesday night. All support is welcome as always.
