Saturday 22nd September

Gary Comerford 15 Premier
Springfield Ramblers v Park United

Springfield Ramblers under 15 team had their best performance of the season against a very strong Park Utd. Cobh defence were up against it in the first ten minutes, but then a great through ball by Neil Hart was finished by Adam Horgan.  Charlie Fleming was instrumental in the second goal, winning a great tackle in the middle of the field, he then sent a good pass to Barry Chandler who turned his man and put Horgan through for his second goal. In fact Horgan went on to complete his hat-trick just before half time
after great work by Ciaran Ahern. In the second half Neil Hart scored with a powerful 25 yard shot that riffled into the top corner.  Great play by winger Cathal Roache put Barry Chandler through on goal and he scored with a great finish.  The game ended in a five nil score line. It was also a sad day for the club because Neil Hart is on his way to Canada with his family.  Neil has played with the club since he was 5 years of age and he and his family will be a huge loss to the club.  We wish them all the best.

Umbro 13 Division 2
Springfield Ramblers v Youghal United 2-2

11 Group 2
Castleview v Springfield Ramblers A

Springfield Ramblers started very well and with some good passing moves and went one up when a ball was played across the box for Kane o Keeffe to tap in.  Castleview pushed on and equalized soon after and just before half time the ball was played across from the right wing to a Castleview striker who scored with a lovely left strike into the corner of the Springfield goal.  The second half was much the same with good possession from both teams and excellent goalkeeping as well, but with ten minutes left Castleview broke away again and scored to finish the game but on another the day the score could have been reversed with both teams very evenly matched.

11 Group 5
Springfield Ramblers B v Carrigtwohill United

Lots of positives to take from this highly entertaining game played in Cobh
on Saturday morning. Both teams showed a desire not only to work hard but also to play football in a style that was appreciated by the many who observed from the sidelines.  Defensively Ramblers were excellent with notable performances from Fionn Hanley, Andrew Condon and Luke O’ Callaghan.  When Carrigtwohill did get beyond the defence Ben Barrett was on hand to pull off some brilliant saves.  Going forward, the midfielders and attackers combined nicely with Matthew Kahn-Moss central to most of the home sides attacking threat and it was his cooly taken penalty late on that ensured a fair share of the spoils for both teams after the visitors had opened the scoring earlier on.

Under 12 Girls
Passage United v Springfield Ramblers

The girls lost the match 4-1 but were up against a strong Passage side.  Best on the day Danielle Hayes, Jasmine Layin Murphy and Caitlin Mulcahy.

Sunday 23rd September

Umbro 12 Premier
Springfield Ramblers v Ringmahon Rangers

This young team had a fantastic start to the game going 2-0 up before the break.  Goals were scored by Nathan O Connell and Eoin Kelly.  However in the second half Ringmahon made a strong comeback to 2-2.  The game then took a sour turn when Ringmahon’s winner was one that was clearly offside and the boys were unlucky to lose from yet another questionable decision from the referee.  Best on the day were Cian O’Rourke and Mikey Foley.

Umbro 12 Division 1
Leeds v Springfield Ramblers A, Leeds Park

Leeds 3 – Springfield Ramblers 2.  After gifting Leeds 3 goals this young side fought back well and with a bit more luck in front they could have got a deserved draw, if not a win.  The goal scorers were Brian Danaj from the spot and a well taken goal from David Forlain.  Best on the day for Springers were PJ O Regan and Edward O Mathuna.

Umbro 14 Division 1
Passage United v Springfield Ramblers

Springfield Ramblers travelled to Passage and were unlucky to come away with only a point in a hard fought 1-1 draw.  John McCarthy was goal scorer and best on the day were Sean O’Reilly and Robert O’Connor.

Umbro 16 Premier
Springfield Ramblers v Blarney United

Good result at home winning 3-1. Goal scores Rob Hughes and Sean Richardson scoring two.

Daly Industrial Supplies U17 Premier League
Springfield Ramblers v Douglas Hall

Springfield started as the stronger side going 1-0 up early on from Danny Barry hitting the ball wonderfully into the top corner leaving the keeper no chance.  However Douglas responded strong and were dominant in winning 50-50 balls and in the air.  They didn’t have many opportunities in the first half and the ones they had were greatly saved by Devlin who showed good leadership from his goal line.  At the close of the half Douglas had 3 questionable free kicks and on the third attempt they scored a great goal and Devlin had no chance.   The boy’s heads had dropped at the start of the second half and although shaky some good defensive plays were still made by both Ray Murphy and Steve Horgan.  Springfield started putting more pressure on the ball and Devlin made another great save which was followed by a fantastic tackle from the right back Dean Keating.   After yet another undeserved free kick was given Douglas went 2-1 up due to their constant pressure on the defence after the kick was taken.  The boys struggled to get back into the game but had some good attempts on goal coming close twice near the close of the game.  In the end they didn’t have the strength to match the Douglas team to level the game.  Best on the day Adam Devlin and Danny Barry.
