SAT SEP 29

U13 National Cup

Leeds 9 Springfield Ramblers 0

U12 Girls League

Bandon 2 Springfield Ramblers 5

Lauren Egboloniu (4), Mia O’Connell (1)

The Springfield Ramblers girls were 0-3 up at half time and with no subs endured some fierce pressure in the second half but the defence led by the captain Louise Burke, Kate Hayes, Erin Leahy and Ava Ireland Morrissey and some fine saves from keeper Megan Bell made sure that this was a game the girls were not going to lose.

The hard working trio in midfield Ava Hurley, Mia O’Connell (1) and Lauren Egboloniu (4) linked up well with the energetic forward Amy Burns who came close to scoring herself on a couple of occasions only to be denied by the Bandon keeper. It was a fantastic team performance and the girls look forward to their first home match to Watergrasshill in 2 weeks’ time.

SUN SEP 30

U12 Danone National Cup

Springfield Ramblers A 0 Douglas Hall 3

In very bad conditions the Springfield Ramblers team came out second best in what was an entertaining game. The wind and rain made it very difficult to play ball. Douglas took the lead early on and pressed home the advantage making it very hard for Springfield Ramblers to get back in the game. Some poor finishing made the job harder for Springfield Ramblers to get back into this game. All players should be given great credit for trying to play football in these conditions. Best for Springfield Ramblers was Edward O’Mathuna who had a great game at centre back.

Springfield Ramblers 8 Rockmount 0

A Comprehensive win for Springfield Ramblers with some great play seeing the home side go in 3 up at half time. They went on to keep good possession in the 2nd half with all the players who came off the bench also having a positive impact on the game.  Goals scored by Mikey Foley (3), Nathan O Connell, Ciaran Griffin, Cian Walker, Ciaran Collins & Eoin Kelly.

U14 National Cup

Springfield Ramblers 2 Leeds 1

Springfield Ramblers U14s had a good win in the National cup against Premier League side Leeds. Scorers in a 2-1 win were lightning Jack Mac and a gem from Captain Ray Roche, best on the day were Sean O’Reilly and James ‘the cat’ Walsh.

Buttevant 3 Cobh Ramblers 2

Against a team two divisions ahead of them Cobh Ramblers played Buttevant off the park for most of the game and were unlucky not to get anything from the match. There were Man of the Match performances from every player on the pitch. The goal scorers were Adam Carroll and Conor Mansworth.

U16 National Cup

Douglas Hall A 0 Springfield Ramblers 10

Scorers: Sean Richardson (2), Marc Griffin, Alex Rowe, Ben Rasmussen, Rob Hughes, George Gill, Kyle Hurley, Owen Heffernan and Charlie Fleming. Great all round team performance.

U17 Premier

Springfield Ramblers 5 Rockmount 3

The game was lively from the beginning with both sides starting well. Springfield had some strong chances with both Kelvin Lynch and John Kennedy narrowly missing their attempts on goal. Their pressure finally paid off when they were awarded a free kick in front of the goal that was fired home by John Kennedy. The lead was short lived when sloppy play by Springfield lead to a Rockmount goal. However the boys rallied quickly when John Kennedy made a fantastic run and put away his second with a clinical finish. Continuous pressure lead to another two easy goals for Springfield, the scorer of both Danny Barry. The second half proved more shaky for the boys who conceded a goal early after poor marking from a corner kick. The boys suffered by lack of communication throughout the second half which lead to some poor decision making. However they went 5-2 up after yet another great run and finish from John Kennedy. Rockmount continued to put pressure on the boys and it paid off when they were awarded a penalty at the end of the match.  The match ended 5-3. The boys made hard work out of what should have been an easier win.  Best on the day John Kennedy, Ray Murphy, Kelvin Lynch and Sean McLoughlin.

Condolences

The club extends its sincere sympathies to committee member and U15 coach Frank Collins on the death of his uncle, Michael Greene.
