U16 National Cup

Springfield Ramblers 3 Liffey Celtic 0

“It’s not important who starts the game but who finishes it”. John Wooden.

Springfield Ramblers National Cup run continues as the under 16 team reached the last 8 of the Barry Cup with a comprehensive win over Liffey Celtic at John Murphy Memorial Park. With the visitors dominating the opening exchanges and missing an early half chance Springfield Ramblers started to take control of the game with Shane Marshall causing the visitors problems on the right wing and crafting a chance for Michael Meaney with the Liffey keeper saving well. During this period Springfield Ramblers with George Gill and Adam Devlin driving the team forward from midfield forced five corners in quick succession, from one of which an excellent delivery from Daniel Barry was met with a great header from Stephen Horgan and put Springfield Ramblers one up.  As the half progressed James Stoat emerged to torment the visitors starting numerous attacking moves and creating chances for his fellow players, the best of which was when he released Shane Marshall who easily beat the full back and fed Michael Meaney who cut through the Liffey defence and forced an excellent save. The freedom afforded to the team to attack was built on the home defence dominance of the visitors and with Sean McLoughlin, Stephen Horgan, Tim Fannin and Dean Keating wining their individual duals and making any tackle that was required. Behind and organising the defence was Cathal O’Hanlon who showed his talent in dealing with any long range efforts or crosses that the visitors threw at him.

Springfield Ramblers continued to dominate into the second half and it was not long before they scored their second, Daniel Barry chased an excellent ball played by into the channel and pressurised the full back into playing the ball into the path of the alert Michael Meaney who beat his opponent and fed the ball to Man of the Match Shane Marshall who scored at the far post. Five minutes later the value of an excellent goalkeeper was shown when Cathal O’Hanlon saved brilliantly at his near post. With Stephen Horgan and Sean McLoughlin dominating in defence and George Gill and Adam Devlin controlling midfield Springfield Ramblers added to their tally when James Stoat received a through ball from Tim Fannin which split the Liffey defence and set Michael Meaney to score. The home team replaced Dean Keating who deserves great credit for his display as he was sick all week with Jordan Tarrant Lowry and this ensured Springfield Ramblers dominated to the end. John Kennedy was denied twice by the visiting keeper in the last ten minutes and James O’Carroll also proved to be a handful on the left wing.

The U-16 management team of   Coughlan, Stuart Burns, Vince Keating and Willie O’Hanlon would like to thank the following; Frank and Kieran for having Pat O’Brien training area ready; Abbo, Mick and Martin for having John Murphy Memorial Park in prime condition; Marie and Mary for helping with the food and Colman Rasmussen (Anderson Financial) for sponsoring soup and sandwiches before the game.

Man of the Match Shane Marshall.

U13 Cup

Cobh Ramblers v Springfield Ramblers

Well done to both sets of lads in an entertaining local derby. The Cobh Ramblers team tried their best throughout but the Springfield Ramblers team who play three divisions above them ran out worthy winners. Well done to both teams and best of luck to Springfield Ramblers in the next round.

Springfield Ramblers got the better of their Cobh Ramblers U13 counterparts to qualify for the last 16 of the Cork cup. The game played in sunny conditions at St Colman’s Park (thanks Ned) was a very entertaining affair for the large crowd who turned out to watch two teams who are committed to attacking football. Best for SR in a very good team performance were Jack McCarthy and the outstanding Sam Beckingham.

Umbro 11 Group 1

Springfield Ramblers 3 Kinsale 0

This was another solid team performance which saw the home side go a goal up early in the first half courtesy of a good finish from Mikey. Jamie in goals made a crucial save moments later to keep the team ahead at half time. The midfield of Louis, Nathan & Tom worked tirelessly throughout the game to keep Kinsale at bay. Mikey and Diarmuid showed some great skill on each side of the pitch & Ciaran got his rewards in the second half for some hard work up front with two goals. Well done to the defence of Jamie, Morgan, Evan, Colin & Brian on yet another clean sheet.

Daly Industrial Supplies Youths Premier

College Corinthians 5 Springfield Ramblers 4

This was a great match from start to finish. Aaron Twomey scored a great hat-trick for Springfield Ramblers with Clive Donnachie scoring the other goal. Springfield Ramblers deserved something out of the game but some poor defending cost the team dearly against the league leaders who got a huge fright and had a greater share of the luck on the day.
