There is no I in Team
Springfield Ramblers Under 16 team advanced to the local cup final with a well-deserved win over Avondale at John Murphy Memorial Park. The team suffered a major blow with their leading scorer Mickey Meaney being injured, all involved with the team wish him a speedy recovery. With Cathal O’Hanlon leading the team and showing why he is international class with some excellent saves. The defence of Dean Keating, Sean McLoughlin, Stephen Horgan and Tim Fannin proved that working as a unit it makes it hard for the opposition to score. With James Stoat and Adam Devlin dominating midfield it was not long before Springfield Ramblers tested the Avondale keeper with Shane Marshall unlucky not to score. With Jamie McCarthy leading the line and proving a handful for the visitors defence throughout the game with his tireless running and creating space for his strike partnerJohn Kennedy.
Springfield Ramblers took the lead when Danny Barry’s brilliant free kick was converted by John Kennedy. When the visitors did threaten their efforts were thwarted by an excellent defence. In the second half James Stoat showed his class as a midfielder creating numerous chances for Springfield Ramblers but the Avondale keeper produced numerous excellent saves. As the saving goes that “There is no I in Team” was well proved by the team’s performance in supporting and helping one another and giving 100% effort. With such a team performance it is hard to single out any one moment but I know all his team mates will agree with me in saluting Cathal O’Hanlon’s save 6 minutes into injury time, (yes 6 Minutes), as something to highlight. In conclusion I must state that the commitment these players have given this season proved that if you work hard you will be rewarded.
