The junior team ensured a hat-trick of victories over the weekend for the club. Ian Stack was forced into action from the bench because of an injury to Damo Brady on 35 minutes. He went on to produce a spectacular hat-trick of goals to rescue the tie when it looked very much like it was going the way of our local rivals. All three strikes were worthy of winning any game. The first and third for individual brilliance and the second a great team effort.

Carrigtohill started the game well and came close after 12 minutes following good work down the left and a cross which picked out Alan Stapleton who shot over from the edge of the box. A corner from the left forced a save from McDermott but the ball wasn’t cleared and the resultant cross was met by the head of Martin Carroll who finished to the net. Wanderer’s first real chance didn’t arrive ‘till the 26th minute when Quigley picked out Murphy in the box. His left foot effort was smothered by the keeper. On 34minutes Alleo found himself clear on goal but was blown up for off-side much to his dismay. Stack came off the bench and was immediately involved picking out Griffin who crossed to Murphy in front of an open goal. His attempt was blocked and his follow up header was saved by the keeper. Wanderers were level on 42 minutes when Griffin picked up the ball out on the left wing. He knocked the ball back to Stack who hit a bullet of a shot that barely left the ground and hit the net before the keeper could move.
Level at the break but Carrigtohill took the lead again only three minutes into the second half. A corner from the right fell to the ‘tohill player in the box. He spun and finished easily but looked suspiciously offside. Quigley hit the side-netting five minutes later with a left foot effort. Andy Hogan had a great chance to bring the home side level after 24 minutes of the half but he pulled the ball wide from only four yards out. On 32 minutes Wanderers were level. Farrell O’ Connor went into a hard challenge on half way out on the right wing. He emerged with the ball and advanced down the wing before picking out Griffin on the run into the box. Griffin spotted Stack running from deep and back heeled the ball into his path. Stack drilled the ball to the net with a strong left foot strike. Just when it looked like this game was heading for extra time, Stack popped up with a superb strike from about 25 yards out that sailed over the keeper and into the top corner of the net to break Carrigtohill hearts.
