Success drives Cobh Tidy Towns onwards and upwards!

What a busy time for Cobh Tidy Towns!

On *Monday 29th August* -Irish Business Against Litter Survey results showed Cobh as “Clean to European Norms”  and showed a massive jump to no.18 from no.40 last year out of 53 towns surveyed! Well done everyone on helping Cobh to achieve this fantastic result!!!

*Tues 30th August*–  10 volunteers came out to paint the rusty railings on the Five Foot Way and sweep the rubble and rubbish from the walkway.We had our work cut out with the fishermen and the dancing mackerel!!!A specialthanks to one of our youngest volunteers Milly O Regan (aged 6 ) for herenthusiasm and hard work!

*Saturday 3rd September* – A big clean up took place  in Cluain Ard – well done residents.East Hill and Environs Residents Association along with Cobh Tidy Towns volunteers  cleaned up the strand at the Holy Ground and spent time landscaping at the Bench.It was a Clean Coast Saturday and 64 bags of rubbish were gathered from the beaches – The Camber 2 bags, Kidneys Strand 3 bags, Connolly St / The Mall strand 55 bags, Carrigaloe 5 bags. 10 tidy towns volunteers and 8 residents from the area came out and helped with the effort.

*Sunday 4th September* – The Fota Road and approach roads in to Cobh were cleaned of litter early in the morning by volunteers.

*Monday 5th September* -COBH WON A BRONZE MEDAL at the National Tidy Towns Awards! We achieved 286 marks, a jump of 9 points from last year which is huge! This is a fantastic result and is the first win ever for Cobh in the Tidy Towns competition.Many thanks for all your words of support and encouragement .This Bronze Medal is for the town of COBH.We are all so lucky to live in such a beautiful place.Each and every one of us has a part to play and we will need each and everyone of you to make 2012 another occasion to celebrate!! Thanks to Noel in THE QUAYs for hosting our celebration on Monday night.


*Tuesday 6th September* – 13 volunteers came out to sweep around Cobh- 2 by The Heritage Centre and Railway Station, 4 on Five Foot Way, 5 on West View & Old Street and 2 on Preaching House steps.The walkway and Carpark at the Five Foot were swept. But it never stops for Cobh Tidy Towns! The *Intercounty litter challenge* results are out on Thursday 8th at 7pm -this is another survey that focuses on litter and was judged over the summer. Our *Tidy Districts Award Night* is on Monday 12th at 7.30pm in the Heritage Centre.Please come along and take pride in the people and places in Cobh that have contributed to our TidyTowns success.

On Friday September 9th *Cobh Heritage Centre* will host a* Cobh Tidy Towns Modelling Show*, starts at 11am, with some prominent Cobh Tidy Towns volunteers featuring! Please support us this Friday! Thanks.
