Calling all heroes: your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to hold a coffee morning or Dress Up/Dress down day this October for Mercy Heroes.
Mercy Heroes is an inspiring initiative that brings communities together annually to support Mercy University Hospital Foundation, and make a meaningful impact on the lives of those being treated at the Mercy University Hospital. Funds raised this year will go directly to the Teens & Young Adult Appeal, which supports young patients of the Hospital through the challenges that serious illness brings.
Professor Derek Power, Medical Oncologist at the Mercy University Hospital Cork explains why funds are so vital, “Teens and young adults require additional services and supports to help them during their treatment. The work I do is only half of it. Having the right facilities, access to research, and being supported by complimentary services all play a part in our patient care; and that’s why it’s essential that we are able to fund and provide these when patients need them most.”
Schools, companies and community groups are invited to support the heroic work that takes place in the Mercy University Hospital Cork by hosting, or supporting, their local fundraiser. This year, the main fundraising day takes place on Friday, October 20th; however, you can participate at any time that suits throughout the entire month of October.
Deirdre Finn, Interim CEO and Head of Fundraising at the Mercy University Hospital Foundation emphasised how support for campaigns like Mercy Heroes can make such a difference in people’s lives, “We want teenagers and young adults being treated in the Mercy to get back to enjoying their lives and fulfilling their hopes and dreams like every young person deserves. This October, anyone can become a Mercy Hero, and any donation, big or small, will help make a huge difference; so please lend your support by hosting or supporting your local Heroes event.”
If you would like to become a “Mercy Hero” this October, learn more and register, or make a one-off donation, at www.mercyhosptialfoundation.ie.
