I would like to respond to a recent article in a local newsletter which reported the provision of 2 bus spaces in front of the Titanic Experience as being a ‘loss’ of spaces resulting in the ‘removal’ of two disabled car spaces. Although my name is the only one mentioned in the proposal to support the bus spaces, it was in fact a unanimous decision of all councillors at the meeting. Most importantly however and what was not reported in the aforementioned article, the decision was only made after clarification that the disability spaces would be relocated and maintained in the town. Since the article was published I have received numerous calls from angered townspeople who thought from reading the piece that the spaces were being ‘removed’ without replacement. I have officially requested a meeting with the town clerk and the engineer to meet with any persons or groups in order that they can voice their opinions and be consulted on the best place to relocate the spaces. I hope this clarifies matters.
Cllr. Michael Martin
