logo_secadThe Spring/Summer programmes are coming to a close and SECAD is now preparing for the Autumn/Winter. A major focus of SECAD’s work is to support people who have been out of paid employment for some time and need some assistance in deciding what to do next. The next step can be returning to education, retraining, finding a job, volunteering or starting a business.

Time to Change Programme
Time to Change is a free 10 week programme designed to enable people to decide what the next step should be in their lives. It focuses on helping people to set goals and create a plan for their future. For people who have been away from the workplace it can be important to work on improving self-esteem and rediscovering personal strengths which will lead to improved self-confidence. There is also one to one help around creating your personal plan.

There is also a session on the financial supports that are available for people who wish to return to education or to start their own business. The various jobs schemes are explained and information is provided on how to access them. A separate session looks at how to prepare a CV and also how to prepare for an interview.

For most of the participants on the courses, it is the first time that they have been given the space to reflect on how they have lived their lives up to that point and then to put together a plan for the next stage. It has been a truly transformative course for most of the people who have taken part in the course and because of the word of mouth promotion, more men are now applying to do the course.

The dates and locations for the Autumn/Winter Time to Change Programme are:
Cobh – Monday, 30th September in Cobh Community Centre, Ballincollig -Tuesday, 1st October in Ballincollig Family Resource Centre, Midleton -Thursday, 3rd October in the SECAD Office, Youghal – Thursday, 3rd October in Cumann na Daoine
