Taking place on Cobh’s Promenade from 12-4pm on Sunday the 26th of June 2016, Vitality Cobh will host a Free Family Health & Well-Being event. Now in its fifth year, Vitality Cobh is preparing for what promises to be another brilliant afternoon. With entertainment and fun for all ages, the day also offers an opportunity to learn more about supports and services based in the community.
The theme for this year’s event is ‘Combating Isolation & Loneliness’ which can affect people of all ages and backgrounds in communities all over Ireland. The day will feature opportunities for people to get involved in their community and highlight the importance of reaching out to neighbours who you think might be feeling isolated and lonely in Cobh and around Great Island. There is an array of exciting entertainment planned for the afternoon for adults and children, including drumming workshops, face painting, dance performances, and live music. There will also be games and prizes and a mix of food and information stalls.
The idea for Vitality Cobh came about several years ago from the Family Support Network who identified a need to generate more awareness of local supports and promote mental well-being. Vitality Cobh fulfills both these needs as well as offering a fun day out for the whole family, filled with community spirit and lots of opportunity to learn about local groups, organisations and services. The organising committee is made up of a variety of local and regional organisations including Cork Mental Health, YMCA, SHINE, HSE Community Service, Cobh Family Resource Centre, Slí Nua, Cobh Lions Club, Cobh Youth Services, and Cobh Summer Swing.
Without the support of our sponsors the Vitality Cobh event would not be possible. The Vitality Cobh Committee would sincerely like to thank our main sponsors Cobh Municipal District for their support. We would also like to thank Cobh Credit Union and the National office for Suicide Prevention and the HSE South Mental Health Services for their assistance.
This year Vitality Cobh was nominated for a Cork County Mayors Community Award demonstrating how enjoyable and helpful the annual event has become to families and individuals. The Vitality Cobh organisers are looking forward to seeing everyone there and hope everyone enjoys another fun-filled and informative day.
