Yet again Cobh did itself proud by putting on a fabulous day of Free Family Entertainment to incorporate the first visit of the liner season by the massive 160,000 ton liner ‘Independence Of The Seas. Approximately twenty five stalls lined the steet paralell to, and facing the Promenade selling everything from food to custom made jewellery. Inside the Promenade itself, six piece Jump, Jive & Swing band The Swinging Blue Cats took centre stage and banged out the tunes to a very attentitive audience even in the miserable weather conditions that have jinxed both of the Family Fun Days so far this liner season.
Whilst at an appointment in a local bar to take some promotional shots I overheard a group of people chatting about what a beautiful town Cobh is and that so much effort by locals must have gone in to putting the day together only to be spoiled by the weather. Speaking with a chap form the liner called Eric (didn’t catch his last name), he told me this was his first visit to Cobh and that it was such a beautiful town and his intention was to see as much of it as possible before the liners departure. ”A ver colourful town” was added by a friend in John’s group. As colourful as Cobh maybe, a local that I had met on the last Free Family Fun Day once again questioned why Tour Buses are shuttling people out of the town for the day and how a local car dealer was able to take up valuable parking spaces with his vehicles clearly marked ‘Car Hire’. These were questions that I had no answer for however these will be put to the Chamber for official response.
The next event of this type run by the Chamber is the Fun of the Fayre/ Summer Swing – Roaring 40’s in the Promenade on Saturday June 12th from 3.00 – 5.00pm
