This Must Be The Place/The Great Island 26th January – 26th February

This project considers the role of a regional arts centre, by presenting an event every single day for five weeks. These will take place in a make-shift, cafe style setting which aims to create an active social space within the arts centre. Many events are free and will invite the wider community to drop in and participate. On any given day you can learn how to make a musical instrument or use an SLR camera, listen to records, drink a coffee, hear about the history of the Old Yacht Club or about how to build a boat.

For the duration of This Must Be The Place, Sirius Arts Centre is delighted to collaborate with The Golden Bean, an artisan coffee roastery based in Shanagarry, Cork. The Golden Bean Cafe @ Sirius will be open every day between 10am-5pm.

Over 28 events will take place including:

Artists’ Get-Together and lunchtime talk by Ruth Clinton and Niamh Moriarty. Friday 29th Jan, 12pm, free admission.

Instrument Building workshop with Ed Devane. Sunday 7th February, 11am – 4pm. €30 per person. Maximum 10 places, booking is essential.

In Conversation / Dympna Collins, Monday 8th February,1pm. Free admission. Informal chat with Cobh-based storyteller Dympna Collins.

Lunch time screenings – East Cork Cinema club presents: Living in a Coded Land, Wednesday 27th January 1pm and Ballymun Lullaby, Friday 12th February, 1pm. Free event.

The Camera workshop with Claire Ryan, Sunday 14th February. €30 per person. Maximum 10 places, booking is essential.

Sacred Harp / Shape Note Singing Workshop, Saturday 20th Februray, 3pm. Free admission.
