A masterclass Springfield Rams performance earned a place in the penultimate stages of the Munster Youths Cup against a physically strong and much fancied Youghal outfit. Springfield sprinted from the blocks and were in front inside 90 seconds when a glorious delivery from Alex Ryan was met with a bullet header from Conor Hughes whos evening ended early when he hobbled off late on.
Springfield bombarded the Youghal goal, hitting the woodwork twice and some excellent goalkeeping denying them what their territorial advantage merited. However, this all changed on 35 minutes when the impressive Calvin Murphy increased the advantage with a clever and brilliantly executed finish from the edge of the box.
Youghal upped the tempo but were unable to penetrate a well marshalled rearguard, with Dominic Roche in particular, having a stormer.
Springfield withheld the pressure and their superior fitness told after the break where they dominated possession. Jack McCarthy who terrorised the Youghal defence throughout deservedly added a third with a clinical finish to put the tie to bed.
Springfield can now look forward for to a trip to the ‘Treaty City’ where they entertain Fairview Rangers in the penultimate stages of the competition.
Excellent performances from Dominic Roche, Jack McCarthy & Slodge Sloane.
