ausflagSince its inception in 2009 “Australia Day in Cobh” has become eagerly anticipated each year since by the 1500 Australians and 400 Kiwis on a round the world cruise from Sydney to Sydney.

For each visit the town buzzes and a fantastic atmosphere prevails as many passengers forgo organised excursions to enjoy a feast of local talent, the craic in the pubs and the themed shop window displays created to arouse interest in the locals, a reminder of home for the visitors and some humour and fun for all.

On Tuesday 14th July the Sea Princess will sail into Cork Harbour for another day of
entertainment, market stalls and a magical sendoff that is ranked by the passengers as the “best in the world”. Cobh Confraternity Band, Darragh McGann and a host of musicians and dancers are lined up to entertain throughout the day. The Blessing of the Bonnets ceremony in memory of all convict women transported to Australia will also take place at 11 am on the quayside.

Cobh Tourism is asking all town centre businesses to enter into the spirit of the event and decorate their windows with imagination, colour and a sense of humour. It doesn’t matter if this year’s display looks a little like last year’s display! The 1900 passengers on the Sea
Princess will be seeing it for the first time and will appreciate the effort.
