Planting began in earnest this week at the allotment site on the Tay road, with many allotment holders digging out, marking out, fertilising, planning and installing raised beds.
Individuals and families alike turned out to enjoy this great pastime and hobby in the lovely few dry days that we received. It’s amazing, everyone has their own ideas of what they intend planting, including vegetables and what will be a vast array of flowers. Pathways were dug out, weed barrier laid down, water pipes installed, then covered with gravel by the many helpers who ferried the wheelbarrows to and fro for the spreading. The site is really taking shape now and should be a sight to behold in mid summer when in full bloom.
All the allotments in phase one are now occupied. We hope to bring thesecond batch of approx 20, into use within the next month or so (stillin time for planting). Anyone interested in one of these sites should contact Aislinn at the Cobh Family Resource Centre Ph. 021 – 4908174 or 086 0415168 in order to register. These sites will be allocated on a first come first served basis, so early registration is advised.
