Results: MFL: Cobh 2-05 C’navar 1-09. The under 8 and under 9 hurlers went to Ballygarvan on Saturday the 20th for a blitz involving St. Finbarrs, Douglas, Ballygarvan and Cobh. We had three teams involved, each playing nine-a-side games against the clubs and after a great morning of hurling Cobh came away with a record of 9 games played, 9 games won. Well done to all the lads, and thanks to the parents ad coaches for giving the young lads such great support. On Saturday evening the U10s played in an exhibition game in Pairc Ui Rinn at half-time of the Cork/Dublin game. This was a great experience for the young lads and a night to remember for themselves and their parents. On Sunday morning the U10s were back in hurling action in the Decky Guckian Lge when they hosted Blarney, the exertions of the weekend finally caught up with the lads and after another competitive game they had to give way to the stronger visiting side.
Fixtures: Mon 22nd: U16F v Glanmire in Cobh: U12F away to Killeagh. Tues 23rd: U14 hurling v Russel Rvrs in Cobh at 7pm.The first round of the Junior football c’ship will be played in the coming week. Cobh face Lisgoold in a rematch of last years’ game which saw Cobh go under by two points after a tight game. We’ve no definite fixture at the time of submitting these notes but details will be released as soon as they are available.
Fundraising: A big thank you to all who supported the club during our Flag weekend last week. Your support is greatly appreciated and all funds raised go to providing the best possible facilities for the young people of Cobh who play the games of the GAA. A special word of thanks to all club members who helped with the collection and bag packing over the weekend.
Underage training: To enquire about training either, email cobhgaa@hotmail.com, log on to the Cobh Gaa website (Juvenile section) to see the full training schedule or call/text the club phone on 086 3099942. Training for girls born on/after 2002 at 11am, on Saturdays, contact Lorraine 0861605314 with any queries. New players welcome at all age groups.
St.Patrick’s Day Parade: We had a huge turn out for the Cobh parade on Wednesday the 17th. Over 60 girls and an equal number of boys marched through the streets in their Gaa gear and all put on a very impressive display. The Gaa group was accompanied by ‘Larry the Lemur’, who was given the afternoon off by the caretakers at Fota WildLife Park, the sponsors of our Juvenile teams. All the marchers were given refreshments at the end of the parade in the promenade. Well done and a big thank you to all who marched and especially to the adults who came along to help with the supervision of such a big group.
Date for the diary: This years’ Gaa summer camp (Cúl Camp) will run from 5th July to 9th July. Further details later.
