This season will see the introduction of Senior Instructor Mickey Carroll from Kinsale Yacht Club for regular training sessions. Mikey was an Optimist ISA National Squad member from 2014 2015 and is a qualified senior instructor since 2021.
Our main sailing area will be Whitepoint and Paddy’s Point with planned trips to Spike Island and other areas depending on weather and tides. This season will also see us organising a Wednesday night Optimist League to run in parallel with Club dinghy racing during the summer months with a shorter course option for the optimists.
Throughout 2021 our schedule was always Sunday morning sailing. For this season it will be the same meeting at Whitepoint at 9.30am to rig and prepare, 10am launch at Whitepoint slipway, sailing from 10am 11.45am and then recover and derig all Optimists by 12.00pm.
To Join Cove Sailing Club Optimist Group simply become a club member which can be done online at a cost of €60 per child or €300 for a family.
Membership includes use of club facilities, life jackets and wetsuits as well as being included in all our events. All our
sailors currently own their optimists which cost from €600 €1,750. Optimists can be easily bought and sold internally by our group. The age group recommended to sail optimists is between 7 and 16 years of age. Cove Sailing Club Optimist Group was set up by Kieran Dorgan in March 2021 and since then has developed into a very successful organisation. Our group is organised and run by parents of optimist sailors with our main goals being to learn how to sail, have fun and meet new friends.
Our 2022 Season will commence in April and we look forward to seeing you all for what is set to be an a mazing 2022 on the
water.
