Take a tour of the Ballymaloe House walled garden with the country house estate’s leading expert and head gardener
Ballymaloe House is offering residents a behind the scenes look at a working garden with Head Gardener Mags Coughlan as she brings guests on a tour of the walled garden. The tour offers guests the opportunity to gain an insight into the extensive knowledge at the Ballymaloe House gardens and their seasonal crop rotations.
During this tour, guests are encouraged to ask any questions relating to their own gardens, whilst receiving expert knowledge on Ballymaloe’s home grown herbs, and seasonal fruit and vegetables. They can get tips on creating salads, adding flavours, and any other gardening queries they may have.
Widely regarded as the birthplace of Irish cuisine, the walled garden at Ballymaloe House provides a varied and bountiful supply of heavenly seasonal produce for Ballymaloe Head Chef Dervilla O’Flynn and her team. Later in the evening, guests who take the tour can taste for themselves the finely selected produce from the garden, on the evening’s menu.
As all produce is fresh from the garden, guests can see first hand the “Farm to Fork” ethos at Ballymaloe House, something that wonderfully enhances the dining experience, and makes the destination the ultimate East Cork escapism this summer.
Nestled on 300 acres of country gardens and farmland, Ballymaloe House offers tailor made packages to suit everyone. Laura Behan, General Manager of Ballymaloe House says that “Ballymaloe House’s estate is the perfect place to stay if you’re in need of winding down. The walled garden tours have beautiful views and the series of gardens are all filled with delightful scents, and flavours that you can later taste in the Ballymaloe restaurant.”
The walled garden visit is available to residents every Wednesday at 11am until the end of October. The tour takes approximately 40 minutes and is available to book on check-in. For more information on this and other Guest Experiences available visit www.ballymaloe.ie.
