Juvenile Teams Medal Presentation: The clubhouse was the venue for the end of year presentation of medals for the victories in U14 and U12 football and U11 hurling. Juvenile club chairman, Willie O’Donovan welcomed the fine gathering and paid tribute to the players and mentors for their huge efforts and success in 2010. Club Chairman, Bill Brannigan, presented the medals on the night. Bill encouraged the young players to keep up the good work and enjoy playing the games. There was a special presentation, initiated by the pupils of Scoil Iosaef Naofa, to one of their own Presentation Brothers, Bro. Athanasius. A short summary of the Bro.s life was outlined before three reps, past & present reps of the school spoke of their huge respect for the Brother. Bro. Athanasius was genuinely taken aback, he thanked all the pupils that helped in making the presentation possible and paid tribute to young people (who he felt were harshly criticised at times) and he thanked the people of Cobh, his adopted home since his retirement. He also thanked those involved with Cobh Gaa for the wonderful work they are doing at underage level and wished all the players continued success in their sporting lives. Bro. put the crystal cross high over his head and departed centre stage with a huge round of applause reverberating around the hall. Light refreshments were served after the formalities were completed. The talented Lane family and Seán Ó Loínsigh provided traditional and contemporary music to round off a great family occasion. Thanks to everyone involved in the organisation of the evening.
