I am wrting re my decision to run for general election as an independant but one who has signed the contract with the Peoples Convention. We have been working so hard in the last few weeks to get the knowledge out there that there is another way, a fair way and a democratic way. Because the election has come on us all so quickly the pressure is now on.
Our first job was to get the info out there and get each constituency up to selection of canidate standard in the Cork and county area. Since the launch of the concept back on Dec.14th we have been on the road all over the counrty but in particuler in Cork constituencies. We are now there. This weekend has seen the latest and forth condidate to sign the Peoples Convention contract. We know the struggle ahead. We are tired but have to push ahead as this is right and the time is right now.
I will run in the Cork East constituency and will be so happy with any coverage you can give to me and the subjects I feel so strongly about. I will not be doing the door to door canvass as I think that people want their peace when they come home in the evening. Neither will I deface my town and county with posters as I believe that if one has done their part in their local community then people should know who they are. I am also againt the gross waste of money this is considering that people are experiencing such poverty at this time. So I will keep this simple!
1. I will attend anywhere there is a group of people who would like me to explain this new way of empowering people and answer any questions they may have face to face.
2. I will visit shopping centres etc with some leaflets to try to explain again face to face.
3. I will engage in any debate on radio or television I may be asked to do on any subject.
4. I will, on a daily basis, write to you and all the other media in my constituency on different aspects of the process.
5. I have set up a facebook page called Claire Cullinane Independant and will communicate as much as possible there. (the Obama way!)
6. I will contact all my friends and business contacts that I have built up over the last 32 years of self employmnet.
7. I am contacting all my womens groups all over Cork to help spread the word for me.
8. I am holding an open meeting in the Commodore Hotel, Cobh at 8pm on Tues. Feb.15th.
