Cobh Ramblers interim boss Martin Cambridge has added four more players to the Rams squad for the 2014 season. Centre back Craig Burns has re-signed along with midfielders Martin Deady, Mikey O’Shea and Rob Waters. All of the players had been training with the side before the manager Dave Hill’s recent departure.
Defender Burns trained with the squad all last season, before arriving in June. He was involved in a transfer saga at the start of 2013. Having supposedly re-signed for his club Waterford United, he then turned out for Limerick in a pre-season friendly. One thing led to another and he eventually signed for neither club. This however was Ramblers’ gain and the solid defender has once again signed for another year at St Colman’s Park
Martin Deady started his league career at St Colman’s Park in 2007 where he was the youngest member of the First Division winning side. He remained until 2008. He spent a period of time with Limerick FC before he returned to feature for the A Championship side. Another period in Limerick followed, with Pike Rovers until he moved to the Rams for the third time early last year.
Mikey O’Shea is a player who came up through the schoolboy ranks at the club. He became the youngest ever player to make his debut for the club against Finn Harps in 2005. He won the First Division title in 2007 and remained with the club until the end of 2008. He has been a frequent member of the Irish Defence Forces team throughout the past few years. In January 2013 Michael returned to Cobh Ramblers for their return to the Airtricity League after a five year absence. He scored against Cork City in pre-season and Salthill in the league but left the club in April due to military commitments. He has now returned for another spell at St Colman’s Park.
Rob Waters is a versatile midfielder who started his career with Cork City before joining UCC. He then moved to Dundalk in 2012 but returned in Cork in the summer of that year to join Corinthians. He made is LOI return, when he transferring to Cobh in June 2013.
Former manager Hill left Cobh earlier in the week to take up a new role working for the FAI as a co-ordinator in Blarney. This full time role meant that he was no longer able to take charge of the senior side. Current u19 manager, Martin Cambridge, was given the job on an interim basis along with his u19 duties. The position has gone out to tender and a permanent appointment must be made within 60 days.
