The High Chapperal played host to the Ballymore festival on Sat last which saw the people of Ballymore & surrounds gathering in numbers to take part in the many activities organised for the day.The amateur bowling comp was well supported and the competitors had a wonderful time walking the roads playing against their neighbours and friends. The emerging winning partnerships of Pat Walsh & Carmel Griffin who came first and Mattie O’ Sullivan and Josephine Moynihan who came a very close second place were well matched and great fun was had.
The teens also played a great game with Liam Hurley & Derry O’Hanlon grasping first place with Conor Foley & Lynn Moynihan just pipped to the post. The festivities moved into the field where the family sports were held to the delight of the local children. The tug o war got under way after the locals built up their strength by sampling the scrumptous barbecue sponsored by the High Chapperal .The top field was the perfect setting for the standoffs between fathers & sons ,ladies v ladies and even the children got a chance to face off against each other.Anna & Pure gold and Pa Foley entertained the crowds for the evening as did the Moroneys with special guest Gary(Gazza) Collins. The evening finished with the crowning of the Festival dame – Tomasina aka Tommy Sexton.D.J Damian stepped in and played the 70s 80s and more into the early hours of what was a fantastic festival night.
