Cobh Pirates annually hold a game in the Paddocks on St Stephens day. All retired players, exiles or those who just want to join in are more than welcome to the club for this festive fun. Over the years some very entertaining games have taken place, mixing the young with the not so young players.
Any player carrying an injury or who does not want to take part in the contact element of this “semi-competitive” game, can wear high visibility vests, and hence will not be tackled but can still take part.
The whole aim of the game is fun, allowing players from a number of decades to mix on the field. It is a great opportunity for those home for Christmas and/or playing their rugby outside Cobh to have a bit of craic in the club. The game is generally 25-30 minutes aside, weather depending, with awards etc in the club house bar afterwards. Fancy dress etc is both welcomed and encouraged while playing. The trophy to the winning captain, man of the match and best dressed will be presented to the worthwhile receipients.
A collection is made on the day every year, with all proceeds donated to Cobh hospital. Any potentially interested players can email pro@cobhpirates.com or check out our facebook page, Pirates RFC.
Please spread the word to all potentially interested , Pirates and non Pirates.
