Carrignafoy Community College News:
County Futsol Tournament November 18th 2013.
Monday morning saw the first year boys soccer team travel to Midleton FC soccer grounds for the annual Futsol tournament for post primary schools. This type ofv soccer was new to mi=ost of the lads but they were up for the challenge. Cobh CC were drawn in a Group with Nagle CC, St. Colman’s CC and Ashton. Our first game was against a much bigger and stronger Nagle side and our lads we a bit overwhelmed by the situation- not a great start.
After a 15 minute break we regrouped and set ourselves up for the next match against Ashton. The Cobh boys gave a much better account of themselves and won this tie 4-0. Next match v St Colmans CC. This was a very tight affair. The teams were nip and tuck for the whole match and the game ended in a scoreline of 3-3. Fair result. Bring on the Quarter final v St Colman’s other team. Once again the Cobh CC lads performed outstandingly! 1-0 victory! The boys were now ready for their semi final clash with the Nagle team who gave us a baptism of fire in our opening tie. Tactic change was called for, and
implemented.
The boys had Nagle running scared as they chased down every ball and left them know that there would be no easy victory! At half time it was 1-1. The second half continued in the same vein and with a minute to go we trailed 3-2. Then with their defence under constant pressure a Nagle defender headed goalward….3-3! Extra time! Panic ensued on the Nagle side but the magnitude of the effort showed in the Cobh players and Nagle just squeezed through to the Final where they were victorious.
All players from Cobh performed outstandingly well. Goals from Evan O Leary, Callum Walsh, Luqmqn Abubakar, David Sycra and Keelan Ryan all contributed to the great day coupled with a fantasic goalkeeping display from Daniel Kelleher. Well done to all!!
