A once off unique fundraiser will take place in Cobh in the very near future featuring fourteen daring people and one very understanding priest! To help raise much needed funds for Cobh People’s Regatta, Cobh local, Kathleen Geary has come up with a `never been done before’ event, an abseil from the majestic St. Colman’s Cathedral. “It is so difficult to come up with new and exciting fundraising ideas to help bring in money” she confided “there are so many worthy causes out there we needed something unique and this is it. I looked for an iconic building in Cobh for the abseil and the Cathedral fitted the bill. Thanks to Fr. Michael Leamy who very generously gave permission for us to use St. Colman’s Cathedral and who will join us in jumping from one of the turrets on 4th August! We are lucky to have Ronan O’Connor, Manager and Instructor of Ardmore Adventures, who will train the intrepid abseilers and will be on hand on the day to ensure a smooth descent. Joining Kathleen and Fr. Michael will be Marc Anderson, Emmet Burns, Sarah Conway, Tommy Johnson, Neil McCarthy, Michael Martin, Paul O’Halloran, Dean Victory, Trevor Hornibrooke, Don Stanton, Laura Leahy, Yvonne Wallace, so please support these brave souls in their bid to keep Cobh People’s Regatta afloat for another year!

Chairman of the Regatta Committee, Hylton Richards commented “We have an exciting programme of events planned for this years Regatta, which will take place from 17th -19th August. There is something for everyone, young and old with family entertainment, live bands, sailing and rowing and much much more. We look forward to welcoming you all to Cobh in August.
