The Mallow & North Cork Branch of Chernobyl Children International would like to thank everybody involved in making sure that our group of children from Belarus had an absolutely wonderful day in Cobh on Saturday 14th July.
We started our day in Fota Wildlife Park and spent four wonderful hours mingling with the animals and had a lovely picnic in the sunshine.
After Fota we headed to the Titanic Experience where we were greeted with a great welcome. We did the tour and the children were very interested in the whole experience and enjoyed finding out if their character had survived or was lost at sea. On leaving, the children were each presented with a bag of goodies sponsored by Auntie Nellies.
Then we boarded the Road Train driven by Martin O’Sullivan who brought us around to the different sights in Cobh which included the beautiful Cathedral. As we were driven around the children loved to wave at the people we passed on the way and were thrilled when they waved back at them.
Our next stop was our party in Supermacs. Carl the Manager was at the door to greet us and brought us upstairs to wonderfully decorated rooms filled with balloons and banners. Also waiting for us were the women from the Cobh Animation Team, dressed in beautiful 1912 attire, who mingled with the children and had many photos taken with them.
A huge thank you to D.J. Pah who provided the music, to Claire Keogh, hairdresser, who gave the girls, and even some boys, beautiful hairstyles and to Ava Downey and Jennifer O’Keeffe who did the face painting, all of which was done voluntarily. Also thank you to the Supermacs staff who entertained and played games with the children. Thank you to the Management and staff of Supermacs who provided food, drinks to everybody. On our departure Carl presented each child with a gift.
A huge thank you to the above local businesses involved, who gave to the children free of charge, for their generosity and kindness which was greatly appreciated.
The children had a fantastic day in Cobh and it will be a day they will always remember and treasure.
