Monday 19th July will be our first public information meeting to highlight the need for a baseline health study in Cork Harbour and the clean-up of Haulbowline. The meeting will take place at the Commodore Hotel, Cobh at 7.30pm.
We would like to inform the people living in our Harbour communities of the issues we face and how the pressure group is working to rectify these issues. There will be some expert speakers and an opportunity for questions and answers at the end.
All politicians from Harbour town councils and Cork County Council have been invited to the meeting and we have had a great response and support. The group approached Ireland’s MEPs and asked them to assist on a European level. Sean Kelly, MEP for our area has been working hard gathering information and will be updating the public on the advice from the European Commission. Ministers Mary Harney and John Gormley were invited to attend the meeting but have declined. However, Minister Gormley is providing us with a statement to read out at the meeting.
The Cork Harbour Health Study group is a non-political group that has no ties with any one party but welcomes support from all. Members of the public are going to be the driving force behind getting the desired results. We are looking forward to seeing you all at the meeting so we can stand together and shout loudly that we will not be ignored, we cannot be brushed under the carpet and we want answers and action from our Government.
