The Cobh Celtic Supporters Club held an evening at the Cobh Ramblers clubouse on Friday night where they handed over the proceeds of their annual Midleton to Cobh Charity Run to two local charities. The Park Road Centre and Breaking The Silence Cobh both benifited to the tune of €1550 each.

Outgoing Cobh Celtic Supporters chairman John Houten, Treasurer Brian O’Connor and Asst Secretary Timmy O’Shea were all on hand for the presentations and John Houten who has been Chairman for ten of the eleven years the club has been going told Cobh Edition that ”This will be my last act as Chairman of this great club. I’ve been at the helm now for a long time and it’s time to move aside and let someone else take over the chair.”

John, who hails from Scotland himself and a life long Celtic supporter told us that he’ll miss being involved at the top level but has every faith in the incoming chairman Brian Lawlor. ”I wish Brian all the best if he ever needs my help then he has my number.”

We asked John what he believes are three important things about the club and his response took no time at all. ”Great Supporters. We look after each other. We’re Celtic through and through.”

Treasurer Brian O’Connor said ”We are just delighted to have been able to raise the funds and donate them to two very worthy local charities. Roll on next year.”

John Lawlor accepted the cheque on behalf of Breaking The Silence Cobh and was very appreciative of the efforts of Cobh Celtic Supporters Club. Breda Doody was equally grateful when accepting the cheque on behalf of the Park Road Centre.
