The Cobh & District Show Bird Society held their Annual Open Bird Show in Cobh Community College at the weekend.  This is their 21st Annual show and was as popular as ever with over 200 Birds in Show.

The competition attracts owners and breeders from all over Ireland coming from Cork, Munster, Arklow, Waterford, Tipperary, Wexford and even as far as Northern Ireland. With so many different breeds of Birds entered including, many different versions of Canary, Budgerigar, Cockatiels, Doves, Finch Quail, Love-Birds, Sparrows and Parakeets the competition was fierce.

“Birds are judged on many different standards including, feather quality, stance, condition of the Bird itself and colour along with many other aspects so it’s a tough competition. The birds also have to, if you pardon the expression, show a bit of leg.” said Dave Perryman, Show Manager.  Over 200 Rosettes were given out over the weekend amid a choir of chirping and tweeting.

Best in show went to Sandra Carlton from Dungarvan with her Gloster Canary.  Second Best in Show went to Chris Ebbs from Dublin with his Bengalese Finch and third Best in Show went to John Lynch from the Southern Lizard Canary Society here in Cobh.  “This is our first Society show in conjunction with Cobh & District Show Bird Society and as a society we would like to thank Cobh & District for all their help.” said John.
