Spike Island Tours
Michael Martin’s hugely successful ‘Original‘ guided walking tours of Spike Island will operate on a daily basis from Monday, 27th June, departing at 2 p.m. from Kennedy Pier. This is a new arrangement in addition to the current weekend tours on Saturday’s and Sunday’s. Cobh.Contact 021 4815211

COBH CARILLON RECITALS – JULY
The free Sunday summer recitals on the 49-bell Carillon of St Colman’s Cathedral continue in July. Cathedral Carillonneur Adrian Gebruers will play on the 10th and the 17th. This year the Cobh Carillon Committee is presenting guest recitals by up-and-coming carillonneurs and students from Ireland and abroad, and two of these young musicians will play this month, on the 24th Tiffany Ng from the U.S.A.  and on the 31st Lydia Zwart from The Netherlands. All recitals are from 4.30 to 5.30 p.m. The Cobh Carillon Summer Recital Season is grant aided by the Arts Council and the Cork County Council and Cobh Town Council.

COBH CATHEDRAL TOURS – JULY
Guided tours of the Cathedral take place every Sunday afternoon meeting at the main door at 3.30PM.   Those wishing to book tours at other times for groups of 15 or more should contact the Parish Office (tel. 4813222) for details, giving as much notice as possible.

Monday 11th July – A ceremony will be held in the Promenade in Cobh on Monday 11th July to commemorate the first time that the Irish Tricolour was raised on Spike Island in 1938 as a result of the Treaty Ports handover. The Irish flags will be raised simultaneouly in Cobh and on Spike Island as the bells of St. Colman’s Cathedral ring at 8.00pm

Tuesday 12th July – Cobh Camera Club – Meeting at 8.00pm, upstairs at Chill on the Hill. Voting for our competition entries will take place on this night.

Tuesday 12th July – Cobh Golf Club – President’s Prize (Noreen Kelly) takes place on Tuesday 12 July (Ladies) and Sat/Sun 16/17th Jul (Men)!

Wednesday 13th July – Promenade – The Dawson Creek Kiwanis Community Band will give a lunchtime recital on the Victorian Bandstand in Cobh’s promenade on the 13th of July.  Dawson Creek (not to be confused with the TV show) is a city in British Columbia, Canada. The Kiwanis Community Band is a marching/concert band incorporating the full range of concert band instruments from flutes, clarinets, saxophones, bassoon to trumpets, trombones, baritones, tuba and percussion.  The ages of their players ranges from 11 to 75 years. The band’s visit to Cobh is being facilitated by Cobh Tourism
