Cobh Junior Football
Cobh suffer defeat in the third round of the East Cork Junior Football Championship as they loose to last years reigning champions, Glenbower Rovers,in Castlemartyr last Friday evening.
A flash downpour before the off made conditions difficult for both teams, with both sides finding it difficult to register points on the board. Stephen Murphy kicked two great points from play for the Glenbower Rovers men. The Cobh defenders played well again and just like the previous round they forced the opposition to kick a lot of wides. Cobh only conceded two more points during the first thirty minutes of play. Lee Mc Dermott kicked two great placed balls in the first half and Mark Foley also chipped in with a well taken point from play to leave the tie extremely open at the half time whistle on a scoreline of Glenbower Rovers 0:4, Cobh 0:3.
The first ten minutes of the second half proved extremely important in deciding the outcome to this championship match as the Cobh men failed to push on from the momentum created in the opening half, Cobh found it very difficult to win the kick outs and breaking ball in the middle of the park which saw the Killeagh men score five unanswered points. With a large lead built up, Glenbower Rovers would eventually have to deal with a spell of pressure from the Cobh men, Lee Mc Dermott was again excellent with his place ball kicking and also added another superb point from play.
Unfortunately Cobh’s push for victory was too little too late and the Glenbower Rovers side added two goals in the closing stages to put a nice gloss on their victory on a scoreline of 2-10 to 0-7. Cobh will now turn their concentration back to the remaining league games to try finish as high as possible in the table for the remainder of the football season.
Scorers for Cobh: Lee Mc Dermott (0-6) Mark Foley (0-1)
