Cobh GAA Street Leagues 2011

Friday night last witnessed the throw-in of this year’s Cobh Credit Union sponsored Hurling Street Leagues when the U-12 groups commenced their first round of matches. Despite a rain filled 8 match programme, the exceptional turnout of eager boys & girls persevered and provided some spirited & closely contested encounters throughout the field. With regular demonstrations of skill under difficult conditions, the many parents, family members & friends who turned out to show support were treated to an enjoyable opening night’s hurling, helping to dispel for a while the feelings of wet & cold.

Sunday morning proved better weather wise but for the presence of mist & fog and did little to dampen the enthusiasm of the U-7 & U-9 age groups who turned up in great numbers to start their respective campaigns. With plenty of encouragement from their mentors and families on the sidelines, the young ones rose to the challenge before them and entertained all with an abundance of hurling passion & skill. At the end of the morning’s effort little separated the teams and no sooner had the final whistle blown and the “buzz” began to make it’s way home, the field was consumed by thick fog. PHEW !

Well done to everyone involved and role on next weekend.
