Cobh Golf Club honoured the 2010 winners of their Matchplay Competitions in the Commodore Hotel on Saturday, 18th of September. The competitions run over the whole season, and the Finals were all played on the past weekend. The winners showed great consistency, as they had to play their best golf week after week.
A Cobh Golf Club “Grand Slam”, a win in all possible competitions, has for the first time been achieved this year! Carol Forrest has famously won the Ladies Singles (she beat Sister Cathryn Anne Cronin in the Final – sponsored by Martha Walsh), the Ladies Foursomes (teamed with Lady Captain Marian Britton, they beat Mary B O’Connor and Maire Hughes – sponsored by Christine and Ger Cronin), and the Mixed Foursomes (teamed with Tony O’Shea, they beat Dave Banim & Noreen Halpin). An amazing task, even more so as she had to play three finals within two days!
The Men’s Single competition was won by Paul McGee Sr (he beat Luke Donnachie – competition sponsord by Ryans Bar), and the Donnachie Cup for the winners of the Men’s Foursomes was presented to John Lawlor & Brian Sheridan, who beat Finbarr Barry & Mark O Connell (sponsored by the Donnachie family).
Congratulations to the winners and runners-up!
